About Houston

ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.
 

By bringing many global functional groups together, the campus provides employees with the tools and capabilities needed today, and in the future, to achieve business objectives and accelerate the discovery of new resources, technologies and products. ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. (EMBSI)

 

Our history and our team: The mission of EMBSI is one that stretches back over six decades. Our team of scientists in diverse fields like epidemiology, toxicology, and environmental sciences serve as in-house experts to support ExxonMobil in meeting the world’s energy needs while keeping people and the planet safe. We opened our first facility dedicated to environmental health research in 1980. Since then, we’ve seen our work make an impact both close to home and around the world, including the development of new methods for health and environmental safety assessments.  In addition to helping shape corporate policy and product development at ExxonMobil, we take pride in sharing our research with the global scientific community.
 

What will you do

 

We are looking for an applied ecologist to join our team of environmental scientists at ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences Inc. (EMBSI). As a member of the EMBSI team, you will work alongside scientists and engineers around the globe to understand, research, and develop health, environmental and product safety solutions for ExxonMobil and the communities we serve.  This position is in Houston, Texas.

 

Primary Job Functions

In this role you will have an impact by:
 

Providing strategic guidance in all aspects of land management to facilitate internal and external compliance. Actively collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to envision and advance the methodologies needed to evaluate the next generation of ExxonMobil land management approaches and technologies. Leading technical initiatives within professional organizations and trade associations to advance contemporary environmental assessment methodologies and identify novel applications. Advancing the scientific dialogue through presentations at technical conferences and publications in the peer reviewed literature. Displaying an interest and capacity to continuously grow as an expert and leader. Skills and Qualifications

 

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
 

PhD in Environmental Sciences or related field, preferably in the field of Applied Ecology. Master’s with 10+ years of experience. Excellent foundation in terrestrial ecology, biodiversity assessments, GIS and spatial modeling, and ecosystem-based management approaches. Experience in nature-based solutions and interpretation of lab and/or field methods used in environmental and ecological assessment.  Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with computational tools. 

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

Experience in the planning, design and critical interpretation of environmental studies. Excellent project management and communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate environmental data and methodologies to non-scientists. Ability to work independently, embrace change, and collaborate with individuals with diverse backgrounds and scientific disciplines. Demonstrated capacity to lead and influence other scientists to produce impactful work products. Ability to accommodate periodic domestic and international travel. Previous experience with legislative and regulatory processes and/or work specifically relevant to sustainability, the extractive industry, and global operations are particularly helpful. Additional experience in marine ecology, risk assessment, fate and transport, or environmental toxicology is desirable.  The successful candidate is not required to have experience across all areas, but must have the interest and take initiative to learn and develop.
