Hourly rate: $36.67 – Fully Qualified (starts at Learner 1: $31.16/hr; Learner 2: $33.00/hr; Learner 3: $34.83)

We have 2 opportunities for AP Welders to join our production team at our facility in OWEN SOUND, ON. Each member of our team plays a critical role in BWXT Canada’s success and in ensuring we meet our customers’ quality, cost and delivery expectations. Our AP Welders are considered the best in the industry and we are proud of the high level of technical skills they demonstrate every day. These opportunities consist of fully qualified AP Welders as well as opportunities for Learners who are working up to the fully qualified status.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
To perform all types of manual welding in all position on company products to quality standards and perform fitting operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Perform all position welding on company products to quality standards. Such welds are not subject to RT and UT inspection.
•Read and interpret Production Orders, drawings, Shop Instruction Sheet (SIS), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS).
•Set up jigs and holding devices as required, positions as required.
•Identify and verify workpiece material.
•All types of semi-automatic gas and electric welding power sources for the purposes of manual welding, arc air and, cleaning tools, shields, safety equipment, welding fixtures.
•Perform Class 2 overhead crane lifts to maintain their own production requirements, marking equipment.
•Communicate openly with the team members and shop management.
•Work in a safe manner, complying with all health, safety and environmental guidelines/regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Proven commitment to workplace safety.
•Commitment to quality and the ability to work as a positive, effective team member, willing to go the extra mile to ensure we meet our customer expectations.
•Understand and adhere to quality requirements and productivity expectations.
•Successful completion of an intermediate welding program.
•Must be able to pass 5 pre-qualifying weld tests: 2 SMAW Plate (vertical and overlay), 1 GMAW Plate (horizontal), 1 FCAW Plate (horizontal), 1 GTAW Plate (vertical). For pre-qualifying weld test: must bring own CSA-approved safety boots, helmet, gloves and safety glasses.
•Ability to read and understand/interpret drawings, specifications, operating procedures, work orders, etc.
•Basic level blueprint reading skills.
•Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights and in awkward positions.
•Ability to pass fit-testing for the wearing of a respirator, if required.
