Casualty Claims Analyst- Atlanta, GA
The opportunity:
Work as a member of the corporate Risk Management and Insurance team responsible for coordinating casualty insurance claims with a primary emphasis on workers’ compensation claims. The role requires a strong claims background complemented by effective communication skills with demonstrated experience working within a risk management, insurance carrier, or third-party claims administrator (TPA) function. Guide effectively coordinating and mitigating risk associated with casualty insurance claim matters to the company’s senior management, other corporate functions, and business operations.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Responsible for oversight of day-to-day Workers’ Compensation claims coordination for assigned areas.Assess and authorize claim reserves and settlements within a specified limit of authority in partnership with field management.Review claims for strategic, and quality handling and escalate concerns immediately to Casualty Claims Manager.Participate in claim roundtables, reviews, and/or audits with the Casualty Claims Manager.Provide support in handling automobile and minor third-party liability claims where applicable.Monitor adherence of TPAs to best practices and account instructions.Ensure any TPA service and handling deficiencies are documented and referred to the Casualty Claims Manager.Timely communication of key updates and recommendations to impacted business units.Generate, maintain, distribute, and provide analysis of approved reports to internal stakeholders.Foster collaborative, productive relationships with operations, Safety, Legal, Human Resources, Legal, insurance carriers, and TPAs.Possess working knowledge of TPA claims systems and Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS).Provide support to the Risk Management team regarding claim accrual allocations, audits, and insurance coverage renewals.Assist with insurance carrier, broker, and TPA billing as needed.Assist locations with return-to-work programs when requested.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on risk management or business preferred and 5 years related experience. Proficient knowledge and experience with insurance industry terminology and policy coverages. Workers’ Compensation claims required, preferably in a corporate Risk Management department, third-party claims administrator, or insurance company.Ability to effectively interact with risk management department colleagues.Must be able to execute in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining keen attention to detail and managing multiple priorities while meeting competing deadlines.Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively and appropriately with all levels in the organization.Ability to manage 3rd party vendor relationships, including but not limited to, insurance brokers, insurance carriers, and TPAs.Prior knowledge of various TPAs and RMIS systems (Origami a plus).Strong computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Occasional travel may be required (up to 25%).
