Class Summary
Job Description
This Animal Behaviorist is responsible for the behavioral care and well-being of cats and dogs at the animal shelter and in the adoption and transition process. This position is responsible for behavior assessments, creating training plans, providing enrichment opportunities, making recommendations, and contributing to the success of matching pets to owners.
Essential Duties
+ Developing assessment schedules, including initial temperament and reassessments
+ Developing behavior analysis, case studies, and follow-ups for unmatched animals
+ Developing improvement plans for specific animals to make positive changes in behavior
+ Monitoring and ensuring all animals are healthy, and cages are disinfected and cleaned
+ Ensuring all animals are properly fed, hydrated, and issued required medication
+ Scheduling playgroups and p erforming daily animal enrichment exercises
+ Maintaining the resource database, events calendar, and creative messaging
+ Recommending the classification and progress of animals to management
+ Ensuring staff and volunteers are properly trained
+ Assisting rescue organizations, foster, and community outreach programs
+ Assisting with reviewing and maintaining animal individual, court, and medical records
Other Job Requirements/Information
+ This position is a safety-sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
+ This position may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
Grade
The grade for this position is B233. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
+ HS diploma or GED
+ Three years of animal care or animal control experience.
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
+ Euthanasia certificate within six months of employment
+ Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience working in an animal care environment as a veterinary assistant
