Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking an experienced Instrument and Analyzer Specialist at our La Porte, TX facility. 


The facility assets include HyCO/Syngas plant, an Air Separation Unit, and a Liquid Hydrogen unit. These units provide a variety of industrial gas products to Air Products extensive array of customers through various pipelines and truck loading stations. The La Porte facility is a 24/7 operation and incumbent must be willing to work overtime as required, and willing to take 24 hours on call responsibilities on a rotating basis.

This individual will support the reliable operation of industrial analyzer equipment in company owned and operated facilities the West Gulf Coast region. The role will serve as primary support for facilities in the LaPorte, Baytown, Pasadena and other satellite plants in the area.

The Analyzer Specialist is responsible for providing routine analytical and technical support to the operating unit by performing analytical tests, instrument preventative maintenance, calibration, and other duties per written analytical procedures and work instructions. Will also assist in problem solving efforts, product quality improvement projects.

Required Skills / Abilities: 

  

Familiarize with the analyzer sampling condition system (SCS) and understand the function of the components in the system.Understand the basic principle of analysis of each analyzer to help with troubleshooting.Demonstrate the ability to understand the P&ID or analyzer tubing/electrical drawings and provide the red mark to reflect what is in the field.Be able to use a Multimeter to test/check the signals.Demonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools typically and commonly used in maintenance tasks.Good organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.Supervisory skills or leading experience a plusDemonstrated safe work skills, fundamental computer skills and the ability to work extended hours.Able to work in a team environment with Operators, Instrument & Electrical Techs, Mechanics, Engineering/Technical Support and other contracted crafts.On call rotation and must be willing to work overtimeDrive company vehicles safely.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Participate in corporate and site safety programs. This includes attending safety meetings, completing training, performing observations, conducting inspections, promoting safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance.Engage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude, maintain personal accountability, and provide mentoring and coaching for team members development.Analytical - Provide routine analytical support to operating/production units for: process, product-quality, environmental, and safety concerns.Responsible for performing and/or supervising the inspection, repair, calibration, and prevention activities associated with a variety of Continuous Process Gas Analyzers, Environmental Analyzers, Moisture Analyzers, and Gas Chromatograph systems (GC’s), Oxygen Analyzers, PH/Conductivity Analyzers, Area Monitors, Water Analysis Equipment. This includes complex gas sampling systems, analysis of samples, reporting of results, troubleshooting, and evaluating connections between results and operation.Maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of analytical data acquisition, historization, and reporting systems.Assist updating or creating maintenance procedures to improve work processes.Can help support with analytical projects and gather the information upon request.To provide new plant commissioning support will also be required.Planning/Organizing - Structure work activities to maximize efficiency, prioritize effectively and establish/follow action plans.Problem Solving/Prevention - Recognize existing or potential problems and implement measures to eliminate or reduce their impact. This includes making direct contact with manufacturer representatives or technical resources within Air Products to diagnose and solve problems encountered.Provide the necessary technical leadership to continuously improve the area’s analytical equipment integrity, reliability, and on-stream factor.Provide Operational/Technical training to individual plant Operations and Maintenance teams to improve overall technical knowledge of their systems.Will support the Maintenance Planner with planning and scheduling of activities.Must be able to develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul, to prepare and provide technical reports as well as enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information to enable others in the organization to carry out their responsibilities effectively.This role is a safety sensitive position.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

Five (5) years minimum maintenance experience in a petrochemical, manufacturing or military environment inspecting, repairing and calibrating Instrumentation/Calibration & Analyzer systems.Two-year associate degree in Instrumentation/Electrical subject area or relevant military experienceMust be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel spreadsheets) and able to maintain clear written records. SAP or equivalent experience CMMS system a plus

Work Hours

This is a plant-based position.Monday – Friday.24/7 on call requirement.  The position requires approximately 50% local commute in the area.
