Imagine creating a brand-new potato variety that transforms the game for both our customers and producers! McCain is looking for an Agronomy Variety Coordinator Europe (M/F/X) to turn this vision into reality.

 

Based in Harnes (France) or Lewedorp (Netherlands), you will be responsible for researching, selecting, and managing the development of innovative varieties. This strategic role aligns with McCain’s commitment to regenerative agriculture, strong partnerships with growers, and reducing our carbon footprint in Europe. Reporting to the Agronomy Variety Lead CE, you will actively contribute to McCain’s leadership in regenerative agriculture.

In this strategic role, you’ll face three major challenges:

 

Developing innovative potato varieties: Transform commercial and environmental needs into specific varietal criteria to create sustainable, innovative solutions resilient to climate change and impactful in the long term.Leading complex and strategic variety trials: Manage trials across multiple European countries, balancing future challenges with sustainable results over quick wins.Aligning stakeholders: Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure alignment between variety research, commercial goals, and growers’ expectations.

 

 

A good level of English, both written and spoken, is essential to communicate effectively within the Group. Interviews will be conducted partially in English.

 

 

Does this sound like you?

You hold a master’s degree (BAC +5) in agriculture or agronomy and possess deep knowledge of potatoes, including cultivation practices, storage, economics, diseases, genomics, and varieties developed locally and globally.

With strong interpersonal skills, you excel in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve long-term goals. You are meticulous, analytical, and capable of working independently in complex environments. Your precision and dedication make you an ideal candidate for this role.

 

 

Your preferred skills:Basic knowledge of statistics and trial design in agriculture.Experience in managing and analyzing large datasets using specialized software.In-depth knowledge of potato varieties and their agronomic characteristics.Expertise in varietal trials, including their design, monitoring, and analysis.Proficiency in digital tools related to agronomy and varietal data management.Ability to synthesize complex results and make strategic recommendations.

 

 

Your Day-to-Day:Translate commercial and product specifications into potato characteristics (yield, size, dry matter, disease resistance, etc.) and share these lists with partner breeding companies.Collaborate with these companies to identify suitable varieties or initiate new breeding programs.Select trial sites across Europe and ensure proper implementation of planting.Prepare European trial sites by coordinating with growers and using specialized tools to manage all trial activities.Supervise planting (April/May) and analyze storage performance of varieties.Organize harvests and analyze collected data.Recommend which varieties to retain or eliminate from trials.Participate in final evaluations of varieties in factories to decide on their commercialization based on performance in agriculture, production, and customer satisfaction.Communicate results to internal and external stakeholders, contributing to the continuous improvement of varietal processes.
