Desired Start Date04/01/2025 Position End Date (if temporary)10/31/2025 To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59pm (MT) on01/15/2025 Description of Work Unit Western Colorado Research Center ( WCRC ) is part of a network of 7 research centers (9 sites) throughout the state. WCRC includes the Orchard Mesa Research Station ( OMRS ) located 7 miles southeast of Grand Junction. Site elevation is approximately 4750 feet with an average growing season of 182 frost-free days. The research conducted at this site includes tree fruits, wine grape production, and ornamental horticulture. OM is also the primary site utilized by the Community Alliance for Education and Huger Relief, an initiative that engages the broader western Colorado community in food insecurity and agricultural literacy. The Grand Valley Research Station ( GVRS ) is located 15 miles northwest of Grand Junction. With an average growing season of 175 days at an elevation of 4500 ft, the reasonably deep loam soils at this location have been the home of the bulk of agronomic research conducted at the WCRC . GVRS focuses on the efficient use of water in a variety of agronomic crops. The Organic Agriculture Research Station ( OARS ) is located at 30624 Hwy 92, Hotchkiss, CO at an elevation of 5800 ft and focuses on certified organic production of tree fruit and other horticultural crops. Position Summary Collaborates with program team at WCRC -OM and off-campus partners to meet goals of agriculture literacy programs and career development pathways as a part of the Morgridge Family Foundation HUB initiative. Employee will work with program team, community partners, and CSU partners to identify educational goals and develop experiential educational curriculum that meet those goals for K-12 students and adult learners. Employee will be the primary instructor, which includes: conveying information and teaching agricultural concepts to a wide range of ages; leading partipants in physical outdoor activities; training participants in using tools in the garden and kitchen; and managing behaviors to maintain a positive and safe learning environment. The employee is responsible for developing and coordinating onsite learning events, which includes: outreach activities; scheduling use of spaces and facilities; coordinating with WCRC -OM staff and community partners; and acquiring and managing supplies within a defined budget. The employee will help maintain the farm classroom and agricultural learning spaces, which include vegetable fields, gardens, and agricultural structures. Based on project needs and funding, this position is expected to work April through October. Should work load or funding change, the work schedule could be negotiated. Required Job Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree, OR Associate’s degree with two years of relevant experience, OR High School Diploma (or GED ) plus four years of relevant, specialized training/experience in a position similar to this one. Degree(s) and experience with an emphasis in agriculture, horticulture or outdoor education + Experience in providing experiential education in agriculture or STEAM to K-12 students and the general public. + On-farm experience in vegetable production + Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing + Ability to work collaboratively with others + Must have a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
