Position Summary:

As the AEC Field Technologies Manager, you will lead the implementation, integration, and management of field technologies across Southland’s national footprint.  This individual will focus on maximizing operational efficiency and quality through the use of cutting-edge technologies such as high-end and low-end laser scanning, UAVs, total robotic stations and GPS layout systems, while driving innovation in Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), robotics, and other emerging field technologies.  This role will require leadership in technology deployment, change management, relationship building, and strategic planning.

 

What you'll be doing:

 

·        Relationship Building/Management

o   Effectively build strong working relationships and communicate with internal stakeholders, including field teams, project managers, IT, and Divisional leadership, to ensure alignment on field technology goals and strategies.

o   Serve as the primary liaison with technology vendors (e.g., FARO, Trimble, Autodesk, CUPIX, OpenSpace) to negotiate contracts, ensure optimal pricing, and guarantee timely support and upgrades.

o   Collaborate with subcontractors and external partners to ensure technology standards are uniformly applied across all projects, facilitating seamless integration of new technologies.

o   Engage with industry groups and trade organizations to stay informed on emerging technologies, trends, and standards that could be beneficial to Southland.

o   Present to all types of employees at all levels to implement specific field technology solutions.

·        Workflow Optimization

o   Work with division leadership, functional groups, and corporate teams to implement enterprise systems and develop divisional specific workflows where necessary.

o   Work closely with divisional technology teams, vendors, and business teams to configure settings, workflows, and features based on divisional requirements.

o   Analyze current construction processes and workflows to identify areas where field technology can reduce inefficiencies, improve accuracy, and increase productivity.

o   Lead the implementation of advanced layout solutions, such as total robotic stations and GPS systems, to improve precision and speed in site-layout, reducing rework and errors.

o   Introduce solutions for progress tracking (CUPIX or OpenSpace) to provide real-time updates and visual progress reporting, enabling better decision-making.

o   Optimize workflows between BIM modeling (Revit) and field data, ensuring the integration of field technology (e.g., Point Clouds, Point Layout) aligns with design intent and project requirements.

 

·        Technology Deployment

o   Oversee the end-to-end implementation of AEC field technology initiatives across Southland.

o   Oversee the deployment and utilization of advanced technologies such as:

·        High-end and Low-end Laser Scanning used for design, 3D as-built documentation, and quality assurance.

·        Drones for aerial scanning, topo mapping, and site progress monitoring.

·        Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) tools for enhanced project visualization, clash detection, and client presentations.

·        Autodesk Revit, ACC, ReCAP, Navisworks, Point Layout, FARO Scene and other BIM software to ensure proper coordination between design and field execution.

o   Ensure all AEC field technologies processes are integrated seamlessly into ongoing projects, from initial setup to final documentation and turnover.

o   Stay informed on emerging technologies, evaluate their feasibility, and lead pilot programs to test potential new tools and systems.

 

·        Change Management

o   Develop and lead the change management strategy for new field technology rollouts, ensuring smooth adoption across field teams and minimizing disruption.

o   Engage divisional stakeholders early in the process to communicate the benefits of new technologies and address potential concerns.

o   Establish feedback loops to gather insights from field staff and other users to continuously improve technology adoption and refine processes.

o   Design and implement training programs to ensure team members are proficient in using new tools and systems, offering both in-person and remote learning options.

·        Support and Documentation

o   Provide ongoing support to field teams, troubleshooting issues and ensuring that all technology functions optimally throughout the project lifecycle.

o   Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all field technologies, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), user manuals, and best practices.

o   Develop training materials and conduct regular in-person workshops or training sessions to keep teams updated on the latest technology tools and workflows.

o   Monitor and document performance metrics for each deployed technology to assess its impact on project outcomes and identify areas for improvement.

 

·        Strategic Planning & Governance

o   In collaboration with AEC Leadership, ensure strategic field technology goals aligns with corporate AEC strategy.

o   Develop and execute a long-term field technology strategy that’s aligned with the Southland's overall business goals and divisional project needs.

o   Ensure field technology standards are consistent across the divisions, in accordance with enterprise standards.

o   Ensure the scalability of field technology solutions support the company’s national footprint, managing the roll-out across multiple sites and regions.

o   Work with AEC leadership and other regional stakeholders to prioritize feedback/priorities across Southland.

o   Along with AEC leadership, participate in the yearly planning process, facilitating divisional and regional engagement.  

o   Understand where each division is within the region, which in turn informs strategic decisions.

 

What makes you successful:

 

·        Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

·        5+ years of experience in field technology management, preferably in construction or mechanical systems

·        In-depth expertise with Laser Scanning, UAVs, total robotic stations, GPS layout, CUPIX, Autodesk Revit, ReCAP, Point Layout, Navisworks, AR/VR, and emerging construction technologies.

·        Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Familiarity with MEP processes, BIM, and construction project workflows.

·        Strong project management skills and ability to manage timelines and resources.

·        Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·        Strong Communication, listening, and empathy skills. Expect to work with Regional Presidents and Division Leaders one day and users of the technology the next day.

·        Strong knowledge of the MEP engineering and construction industry. 

·        Has the ability to meet people where they are and progress them through change management to reach desired outcomes.

·        In-depth understanding of relevant technologies, technical principles, and broad knowledge of related disciplines.

·        Ability to work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

·        The position will require out of State travel to Divisional offices and job sites.
