Advanced Practice Provider - Observationalist

POSITION SUMMARY

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides high quality, cost-effective patient care that supports established specialty practice objectives and strategic organizational goals within the Observational Units.

 

The APP establishes preventive measures, diagnoses, and treats illnesses and disorders in a competent manner that is consistent with medical practice and joint protocols as established with the collaborating physician. This position ensures that patient care is delivered in a cost-effective manner, managing and utilizing resources optimally. Patients under your care are outpatients being evaluated for admission as an inpatient or discharge to ambulatory medical follow up care and potential further evaluation outside of the hospital. By demonstrating compassion and respect for the individual, the APP provides care that meets the customer’s expectations while facilitating best care practices for the patient in an expeditious manner.

 

The APP works collaboratively with physician leaders, administration, and staff to improve clinical outcomes. This position participates in quality improvement efforts organization-wide and plays an active role as a member of the appropriate divisional and departmental committees. The APP maintains current technical knowledge and seeks educational and professional opportunities to enhance clinical practice and competency.

 

The APP contributes towards the organization’s educational programs and teaching activities. This position participates in the peer review process to enhance clinical practice, demonstrating sound judgment and respect for colleagues.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Master’s degree in nursing (NP track) or PA studies from an accredited school required. Doctorate is optional.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: NP applicants: national board certification and current licensure as an RN and APN in the State of NJ. PA applicants: national board certification and current licensure in the State of NJ.  Certification within area of specialty required and granted privileges from ARMC medical staff.  BLS-HCP and ACLS required.  

EXPERIENCE: Novice APPs are welcome to apply, APP experience of 2+ years preferred. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, blood-borne pathogens, and potential injury.

Physical demands include but are not limited to considerable stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing heavy equipment and excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25-30 lbs frequently.

The department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool lists the essential functions of this position. 

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This APP will report to the Lead APP – Hospitalist and collaborates with the hospitalist physician team.  This position also reports to Departmental Leadership.
