When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us. * Job Summary:* Serves as the lead administrator in the Department of Surgery (DOS) at Hartford Hospital (HH). The Administrator will coordinate surgical collaboration and management between HH and the Hartford HealthCare Medical Group (HHCMG) surgical members. The administrator will oversee the administrative structure for administrative, clinical, research and academic activities within the surgical department. The administrator collaborates closely with the Chief of Surgery to help operationalize the many programs and objectives that are outlined for the department each year. 1. Supports the Chief of Surgery at Hartford Hospital which includes planning, organization, and execution of administrative and daily operations of a busy surgical service that incorporates 13 divisions in the DOS to include Acute Care Surgery, a Level I Trauma Center, multiple ACGME accredited Residencies and Fellowships, and the HH Wound Center. 2. Creates and implements policy and standards for the DOS and ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements. For example, external requirements such as collaborates with HHCMG hiring, compliance, credentialing, and contract management for internal and external vendors / providers. 3. Manages the departmental finances to include billing practices, revenue generation, and investigate and control expenditures within the department. Also oversees the departmental finances and professional billing processes working collaboratively with the HH and HHCMG financial departments, revenue analysts and surgical coders. Oversees the activities of billing services to ensure timely submissions, maximal returns, regulatory compliance and collections. 4. Develops and maintains a budget and submits the budget to HH and HHCMG finance within designated time frames. 5. Assists in the investment and maintenance of funds within the DOS and appropriate disbursement of those funds to best support departmental members, surgical residents, new and existing surgical programs and the mission of the DOS in a fiscally responsible manner. 6. Supports the recruitment and retention of a large, advanced practice (AP) (110 staff) in the DOS. Development of business plans, completes assessment of AP needs to ensure safe quality care of the surgical population. Coordinates on-boarding of AP managers and creates and implements policy and operational standards for DOS AP service. 7. Collaborates with the department Chair and the leadership within HHCMG toward the evaluation, development, and implementation of strategies for growth, management and integration consistent with the vision within HHC and is an appointed member of the Surgical Executive Committee. 8. Shares responsibility for the combined Acute Care Surgery ambulatory specialty clinics as needed working within the existing HHCMG structure. 9. Responsible for communications across division administrators, ambulatory clinics, research and academic functions as well as the fiscal viability of the above activities. Assists the Chief of DOS in the quarterly departmental wide meeting. Provides quarterly reports of key metrics for the department. 10. Participates in multiple departmental faculty and PI Committees. 11. Functions as the Administrative and Program lead for the Healthcare Heroes Against Impaired Driving campaign as supported by a grant from the CT DOT. Works in collaboration with the HH Chief of Trauma 12. Functions as the Administrative and non-clinical Program Lead for the Hospital Violence Intervention Program (HVIP). Participates in weekly/ Quarterly meetings with the City of Hartford & HVIP Partners, to include, but not exclusive to the Mayor’s Office, CCMC, St. Francis Hospital & City of Hartford NGOs 13. Provides administrative & operational leadership/ support to the Annual Lenworth Jacobs Lecture & Annual Dr. David Crombie Lecture. • Master’s degree in Science, Business, Nursing, Hospital Administration or related field. • Minimum 8-10 years of related work experience preferably in an academic medical center or related industry.
