Position Summary:

Sets the vision and direction for clinical care in the delivery of safe, timely, efficient, equitable and patient centered care throughout areas of responsibility including acute, ambulatory and community areas. Directs the systems and processes for delivering care for defined patient populations within clinical service area. Accountable for zero harm strategies across areas of responsibility. Responsible for financial planning and performance measures including but not limited to; productivity measures, ensuring adequate standards to meet care needs, capital planning, financial stewardship, budget planning, growth initiatives and cost containment actions. Ensures compatibility with recommendations and compliance from accrediting agencies. Has active role in human resources management of colleague engagement, workforce planning and accountability management. Full complement of management responsibilities including; short and long-term planning and development, human resource management, managing and developing physician relationships, financial accountability, quality assessment and improvement, regulatory compliance, productivity management, operational excellence and assuring consistency with the organizational and health system strategic plans. This position holds responsibility for using a collaborative approach to setting strategic direction, development of new services, service line growth, and marketing of assigned clinical services. May have areas of responsibility that are unrelated to service line or multiple key programs. Significant sphere of influence and impact to organization due to large number of FTE’s, multimillion dollar operating budgets and key program and services responsibility.

What the Director of Clinical Services will need:

Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related fieldDoctorate degree preferredCurrent licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.Five years of direct clinical experience in the service lines involved with 3 years progressive management/leadership experience in an acute care environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceExecutive competencies as outlined by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and American Organization of Nurse Leaders (AONL)

What the Director of Clinical Services will do:

Develops, implements and administers the service line strategic business and financial plans in accordance with organizational strategic plan, integrating them into the daily program operations. Documents, communicates and revises plans annually to act as a guide for the entire service line. Helps others establish proper goals, objectives and priorities that have meaning and significance to the overall mission and strategic plan of the Organization.Develops and implements systems to ensure the quality, efficient, cost-effective operations which support and achieve goals and objectives of the clinical service lines assigned. Works in partnership with key stakeholders, including members of the medical staff, to achieve desired clinical, financial, and people outcomes for patients, staff, and Trinity Health. In a Dyad leadership model with Medical Directors, identifies changes needed within department and implements, manages and evaluates the change process.Ensures the delivery of patient care occurs in a safe, clean, well-equipped environment. Seeks to incorporate the use of new technologies and methods to improve clinical outcomes, productivity and organizational effectiveness. Challenges current processes to identify more cost-effective methods.In collaboration with other Clinical Service Leaders defines and guides nursing practice, including policies and procedures, nursing competencies and credentialing. Ensures that nursing practice standards are consistent in all areas in which nursing care is delivered and are research based.Establishes policies, procedures and protocols necessary to accomplish daily tasks, processes and long-range goals consistent with standards established Trinity Health Grand Rapids, JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies. Ensures that the assigned Clinical Service policies, programs, and plans are consistent with and support Trinity Health's core values and mission.
