Adjunct Faculty - Literacy
Position Summary: The department is establishing a pool of applicants to fill potential part-time temporary teaching positions and full-time visiting faculty position openings. (Please note: FT Visiting positions are rare and they should not be the sole purpose for your application.) Major Responsibilities: A classroom based 3 credit hour course pays $3500 per class. The department typically hires for the courses/subject areas listed below but this list is not all inclusive. Other courses/subject areas may become available within the department. ILLUSTRATIVE NEEDS INCLUDE : LIT 371 Teaching Elementary School Reading & Language Arts I LIT 372 Teaching Elementary School Reading & Language Arts II LIT 511 – Teaching Literacy in the Primary Grades LIT 516 – Teaching Literacy in the Intermediate Grades LIT 525 – Discrete Literacy Instruction and Assessment LIT 527 – Comprehension Instruction and Assessment LIT 528 – Literacy Foundations LIT 535 – Writing Instruction and Assessment LIT 449 – Literacy in the Middle and Secondary School (cross-listed with LIT 549) LIT 549 – Literacy in the Middle and Secondary School LIT 560 – Children’s and Young Adult Literature in the Curriculum LIT 590 – Teaching and Learning Literacy in the Digital Age LIT 630 – Literacy and Society LIT 669 – The Literacy Specialist and The Literacy Program LIT 690 – Assessment for the Specialized Literacy Professional LIT 693 – Applied Assessment and Instruction: Literacy Capstone and Practicum Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in Literacy/Reading Education or related field. Competency with technological tools Preferred Qualifications: • Previous experience teaching online courses at the college level • New York State certification in Literacy/Reading. • Doctorate in Literacy/Reading Education or related field. • At least three years of B-12 teaching of reading
