Adjunct Catalog Librarian - Temporary University Libraries Swirbul Library, Garden City JOB SUMMARY: The Adelphi University Libraries is seeking an enthusiastic and detailed-oriented Adjunct Catalog Librarian to oversee the daily operations of the Catalog and Metadata Strategies unit while the Catalog and Metadata Strategies Librarian is out on sabbatical. The position will be for up to 20 hours a week and to last from August 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026. This position is eligible to be hybrid with the in-person and remote hours to be determined. The Adjunct will report to the Vice Provost for Research and Libraries and the Library Faculty Chair for daily supervision. The incumbent will work closely with the Catalog and Metadata Strategies unit staff in a collaborative environment to efficiently prepare and distribute materials for students and faculty success. RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily Operations: + Manage daily operations and services of the Catalog and Metadata Strategies unit. + Provide guidance and answer cataloging questions from unit staff; supervise the unit including the Specialist, the Administrative Assistant and student workers. + Engage in original and complex copy cataloging for a range of materials including electronic resources such as ebooks and streaming videos, print resources such as books, journals, DVD’s, and magazines; the application of metadata in our institutional repository (Esploro by Ex Libris); cataloging special collections materials; conducting general catalog maintenance and batch processes in our integrated library system (Alma by Ex Libris). + Ensure the viability of our discovery layer (Primo by Ex Libris). + Collaborate with and provide assistance to other units in the Library. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: + A MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library science graduate program is required. + At least one year’s experience with cataloging and metadata is preferred. Familiarity with bibliographic and metadata standards, schemas, and tools such as RDA, OCLC Connexion, Library of Congress Classification System, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and MARC21is preferred. + Knowledge of integrated library systems and discovery layers, preferably Ex Libris’s Alma and Primo, and institutional repositories, preferably Esploro by Ex Libris is preferred. + Ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students is required. + Strong management, technology, and organizational abilities required. + Recent graduates are welcome to apply. SALARY INFORMATION: In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $40 an hour.
