Under general direction, this position will advance the City's equity agenda; facilitate the process for complaints; serve as the designated ADA Coordinator by promoting the city's ADA accessibility compliance with municipal, state and federal accessibility codes and regulations for all city policies, programs, and services. Under general direction, is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing programs designed to enhance the opportunities and services available to City employees and to advance the objectives of the Department of Human Resources; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work Position Responsibilities + Monitor compliance with ADA accessibility requirements. + Respond to citizen complaints regarding accessibility issues. + Develop and oversee public awareness efforts pertaining to accessibility. + Develop and implement community outreach, public awareness programs, seminars and workshops on issues for citizens with disabilities. + Act as liaison with disability organizations, community programs, businesses and government agencies. + Provide staff support to the Columbus Advisory Committee on Disability Issues. + Represent the department and provide technical support, information and guidance on accessibility issues. + Respond to requests for information on accessibility codes and regulations. + Support city department’s ongoing efforts to conduct accessibility assessments and compliance. + Provide interpretation of municipal, state and federal codes, regulations and policies. + Prepare comprehensive documents on accessibility studies and analysis, special reports and recommendations. + Attend taskforce, committee, compliance and professional meetings to represent the department. + Perform other duties, both compliance and HR related, at the direction of Department Leadership. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Application of good knowledge of accessibility issues, laws, and requirements. + Application of good knowledge of local, state, and federal accessibility laws, rules, and regulations. + Application of good knowledge of ongoing regional initiatives, programs, and services affecting the community for persons with disabilities. + Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently understand complex issues, produce actionable briefing documents, and communicate realistic and achievable solutions to senior leaders. + Clear and concise oral and written communication skills to include public speaking and presentation. + Demonstrated ability to work within the Microsoft Office suite and deftly manage and organize virtual / hybrid meetings on commonly used platforms (Webex, Teams, Zoom, etc...) + Coordinate data collection, entry, and reporting process relative to accessibility work and practices. + Demonstrated ability to work with members of the public, who at times are experiencing distress, and mediate and manage their ADA-related complaints, grievances, and requests. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, officials, persons with disabilities, and the general public. + Possess and demonstrate a strong and durable individual passion for public service. + Possess and demonstrate the ability to work with team members in a manner characterized by positivity and dedication. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional experience involving employee relations, recruitment, project management, or a closely related program. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Preferred Education and Experience + Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Sociology, Social Work, Communication or related field and three (3) years of experience related to disability access, barrier reduction, mobility, and/or community outreach. Valid driver’s license.
