Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Intensivist Medicine

HTPN Pulmonary and Critical Care is seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join their practice at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where intensive care medicine is provided.

JOB SUMMARY

\n

The position requires a strong focus on patient care and service. This job entails the APP to independently perform a variety of procedures.  Individuals who are self-motivated, hardworking, detail oriented, and adhere to clinical protocols are encouraged to apply.  The ideal candidate will provide patient care in a competent, professional, and courteous manner, and will maintain effective communication with patients, hospital staff, and Attendings.  The APP will practice in close collaboration with the intensivists in the group, who will provide continuing education in the evaluation and management of ICU patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nAssesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.\nOrders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.\nPrescribes, recommends and/or employs medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatments and procedures or performs indicated procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policies with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.\nFormulates and implements comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines and in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient’s response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.\nCounsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over the counter medications and herbal remedies.\nMaintains appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice and/or expertise.\nProvides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.\nPerforms invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and competency of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician.\nMay conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support.\nShift/Schedule: 12 hour rotating shifts / Days\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

\n\nEDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program must have AGACNP\nInpatient experience \nExperience – 2 years of critical care experience preferred OR completion of a critical care fellowship\n\n

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION

\n\nBasic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer\nAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer\nAcute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (ACNP-BC) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP-BC)\n\n
