Actuarial Manager
The role

An exciting opportunity exists for an individual to establish and lead the Actuarial team in the Digisure Short-term business. The incumbent will be responsible for product development, pricing, reporting and data analytics for Digisure Short-term.

What will you do?

This person will play a key role in the delivery of a forward-thinking digital short-term insurance offering, reporting to the CEO: Digital Short-term Insurance and working closely with the Santam Client Solutions (SCS) pricing and underwriting teams to achieve the digital insurance vision. The ideal candidate is someone with a proven track record of finding ways to do more with less, someone who is comfortable with navigating an ambiguous fast-paced environment.

What will make you successful in this role?

•    Digital Strategy:
o    Serve as a critical member of the business unit’s management team, playing a role in defining and driving the digital short-term insurance strategy, landscape and road map.
o    Work very closely with the business head & product manager to launch the new offerings on time and within budget. Post-launch the focus will shift to balancing and achieving both the growth targets and the loss ratio targets
o    Identify risks and shortcomings, design strategies and product features
•    Product Development & Pricing:
o    Work closely with SCS Actuarial team to identify and find synergies as well as come up with innovative product features, rating methodologies and underwriting practices to deliver on the purpose of Digisure S/T while maintaining a healthy Loss Ratio
o    Improve rapidly and continuously on the initial launch rates and product
o    In time, incorporate telematics data insights into product features, pricing and claims management.
•    Actuarial management and capacity:
o    Identify synergies between SCS and the Digisure in terms of product(s), structures, models and insights such that learnings can easily be shared both ways
o    Consider and lead resourcing needs and growing the Digisure actuarial capacity

Qualifications and Experience


•    Actuarial degree (or equivalent Mathematics / Data Science degree) 
•    5+ years of experience in Actuarial Motor Pricing
 

Additional skills

•    Analytical and delivery focused, organised, data-driven and detail orientated.
•    Excellent communication (written and spoken) at all levels of the organisation
•    Solid understanding of the short-term insurance business model
•    Understanding of and experience in operational systems, programming, working with both structured and unstructured data 
•    Proven track record of finding ways to do more with less
•    Thrives in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritise, pivot and problem-solve
•    Comfortable to navigate ambiguous environments
