Our teams are trusted as scheme actuaries to over 200 pension schemes, our actuarial services include advice on pensions strategy and funding position, regular valuations, journey planning, de-risking, GMP equalisation, and integrated risk management.

We are looking for a nearly or qualified Actuarial Consultant to join our GMP team. This is a rapidly growing team and represents an exciting opportunity to be involved in GMP equalisation and other rectification projects.

GMP equalisation is currently a subject on the agenda for all Trustees’ meetings. This role represents an opportunity to be at the forefront of this area in a client facing role.

The primary purpose of the role is to assist in the provision of advice in relation to GMP equalisation and other rectification exercises and to deliver the results to clients acting as a trusted advisor for a portfolio of schemes

The purpose of the team is:

• To advise clients in relation to benefit rectification projects both for ongoing pension schemes and those heading towards buy in/out or wind up
• To carry out benefit rectification projects, liaising with other departments where required and to provide technical support to the rest of the department
• Participate in the development of actuarial policy in relation to occupational pension scheme valuations, financial reporting and pensions legislative developments
• Provide peer review sign off and mentoring functions to other actuaries and staff contribute to sales and sales presentations to generate revenue growth

Key duties / responsibilities

Working on client projects relating to GMP equalisation/conversion, NRA equalisation and other rectification projects with personal targets set, aligned to client deliverySupervising, checking and signing off the work of junior team members providing coaching, mentoring and feedback to enhance quality of work and development of colleaguesActing as the primary point of client contact on some projectsAttending client meetingsSupporting the management of the team’s workflow to achieve client delivery and providing a two way communication channel for the team to maximise motivation and team success.

A nearly or qualified Actuary (full study is available to complete your studies if required) or qualified by experience

Skills required

Essential 

Experience of working in an actuarial team ideally with GMP knowledgeKnowledge of benefits legislation and best practiceGood communication skills Ability to work flexibly and able to work under pressure Proactive  

Desirable 

Knowledge of PFaroe actuarial consulting softwareExperience of working in an actuarial role in a pensions consultancy
