Summary This position involves duties in the agent cashier office and accounting office. The Accounting Technician serves as an alternate timekeeper and alternate agent cashier within the Financial Management Service This position requires flexibility, resourcefulness and diplomacy, in addition to accuracy, efficiency and courtesy in dealing with a wide variety of daily customers. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Classification and processing of a wide variety of transactions that verify accuracy and completion of accounting data, regulation compliance, and entries to accounts and subsidiary accounts Performing follow-up actions and routine reviews records, source documents and accounting actions and obligations, utilizing various appropriate methods, documenting all actions as required, to identify discrepancies and ensure technical accuracy. Prepare journal vouchers, inter-office transfer vouchers and expenditure transfers. Assist in maintaining all real property accounting records, ensuring proper coding/costing for transmission into the appropriate capital accounts, including work in progress, for all funds. Reconcile accounts by comparing account balances with related subsidiary ledgers to ensure agreement. Determine training goals, prepare training materials, schedule, and conduct specialized training sessions for employees with duties that require use of the automated financial management systems. Identify new users, track completed training, open and perform annual reviews to ensure compliance. Verifies all payment amounts by analysis of subsequently produced computer generated accepted document listing. Prepare employee travel. Act as our alternate agent cashier when the primary cashier is on vacation and or during the annual two week turnover. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work is generally sedentary and is performed at a desk or workstation with occasional lifting of light paperwork and/or boxes. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/29/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
