Accounting Specialist

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following: other duties may be assigned)  

Responsible for analyzing and monitoring debt related activity by working with internal departments, and recording debt transaction of the company, e.g., preparing journal entries, debt-related calculations and schedules, debt roll forwards, reconciliations, recognition and amortization of deferred financing costs, swaps, interest, and other expenses. This position plays an active role in monthly and quarterly financial close, analyses and supporting other projects and reporting needs as needed. Additionally, this position will review and post journal entries and account reconciliations. The Accounting Specialist serves as subject Matter Expert (SME) in assigned area of responsibility and provides technical advice/counsel to others and is required to work collaboratively within department and with cross functional teams as part of day-to-day activities.

In-depth and extensive corporate accounting industry knowledge. Highly skilled professional with wide-ranging, advanced technical experience to resolve complex issues. Competent to work at very high level in multiple knowledge areas or functions as an advanced contributor.

Makes decisions and performs escalated or more highly complex work within department regarding assigned area or responsibility. Makes recommendations on new processes, tools, and services. Leads the research for innovations and identifies opportunities to develop new processes, tools, services, and techniques.

 Work Complexity

Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors. Collaborates with management and top professionals/specialists in selection of methods, techniques, and analytical approach. Independently selects process, methods, techniques, analytical approach, and evaluation criteria in evaluating work and assist with determine the best approach for others as the SME.

 Leadership

Serves as project or technical lead on medium to large projects, train, and mentor employees on technical skills. May coordinate work of others within and outside of own department.

Job Requirements 

Strong analytical and computer skills are required. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or finance preferred. Minimum of 8 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Previous work leadership experience. Strong analytical and technical MS Office suite skills preferred  Advanced excel skills are required including use of pivot tables and filters. Use of macros and other Excel tools is preferred. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with significant deadlines.  Must be able to work longer hours at various times during the year to meet deadlines and job requirements.

Additional Benefit - Hybrid with On-Site in Houston, TX: Three times a week with Manager approval
