What your days look like:

You support the performance of nonprofit accounting advisory engagements by managing and delivering timely and accurate nonprofit accounting including implementation of new accounting standards, account reconciliations and financial statement closing procedures, financial statement preparation, and on-demand nonprofit accounting support. A significant portion of the work performed centers in and around solving a nonprofit accounting and financial reporting challenges from staffing or event-driving needs. You will also play a key role in expanding our nonprofit accounting advisory services to both existing and new Cherry Bekaert clients.

As an Accounting Advisory Manager, you will be responsible for performing specific engagement activities, participating in discussions with clients, and assisting with drafting deliverables. Specific responsibilities will include:

Plan, manage, and perform a variety of engagements including but not limited to: Account and Financial Close and Reconciliation Assistance, Implementation of New Accounting Standards, Accounting Analysis Related to Compliance with Laws and Regulations, Ongoing Best Practice and Nonprofit Accounting Support Engagement Management including assessing and evaluating client accounting challenges, developing tailored advisory solutions, and establishing the timeline and scope of engagements Responsible for providing status updates to client leadership on the current status of tasks and any findings or recommendations identified Evaluating complex nonprofit accounting situations and determining the appropriate treatment under GAAP Identify best practice or other recommendations in clients account reconciliation or other financial processes and develop and executive level report of the findings Develop content such as articles, podcasts, or webinars on nonprofit accounting matters to build brand recognition of nonprofit accounting advisory group Ensure team is up to date on related nonprofit accounting pronouncements and industry developments Oversee firm objectives (engagement economics) and manage resources to ensure that established goals are met on each project assigned Mentor and develop associates by providing continuous feedback, utilizing firm developed tools and processes. Assist with the evaluation and constructive steps to enhance associates’ performance and development Serve as a technical accounting nonprofit leader, both internally and externally Be a trusted advisor to a client and begins to identify opportunities for expanded services Develop outside relationships focused on long-term business development opportunities Perform other duties as assigned

Types of projects you can expect:

Implementation of new accounting standards, including CECL, lease accounting, and revenue recognition Development of technical accounting memos on complex nonprofit accounting topics Bank account and other subsidiary ledger reconciliation Assistance with financial statement close processes Drafting and reviewing financial statements Large data set manipulation and problem solving Internal control and best practice evaluation Validation of information between multiple sources of financial information Outsourced or co-sourced accounting support Other projects as assigned/needed.

What you need for this role:

Must have current or prior Non-Profit experience (required) 5+ years’ experience in nonprofit accounting CPA (with an active license: required) Strong nonprofit technical accounting skills (FASB), ASC’s, ASU’s Prior work/support in foundations and/or endowments Experience performing external audit, consulting, or accounting and finance function with minimum 3 years supervisory experience Strong knowledge: OMB Circular/Uniform Guidance, SEFA preparation, single audit readiness Track record of or interest in business development with nonprofits Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required) Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Proven ability to lead and develop team members Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within project budgets Knowledge of professional standards and regulations Prior experience with internal controls including documentation and testing of controls Work in a demanding, team and deadline driven environment focused on details and accuracy Solid organizational skills especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details Effective oral and written communication skills Ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments Experience with Microsoft Office products required (ability to effectively utilize PowerPoint; Intermediate Excel skills with ability to analyze and summarize data through the use of formulas, pivot tables, and related add-ins); Other audit technology resources experience a plus Ability to travel as needed (range may be 10%-25% of the time) Ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, energetic with the propensity to learn/share knowledge for the betterment of the team and firm You’ll have the vision to see this as an opportunity to transform client experiences/enhance standardization within the segment as we grow

Preferred skills and experience:

Implementation of FASB standards Financial statement close process, proposing adjusting and/or reclassifying journal entries. Ability to troubleshoot and solve account reconciliation issues Prior experience coaching and developing less experienced associates

The salary range for this position is $97,660 to $175,700. Individual salaries within this range are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
