Description We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Nonprofit Accountant to join our team and ensure the accurate management of our financial resources, helping us advance our mission to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. Responsibilities: As a Nonprofit Accountant, you will be responsible for: + Financial Management and Reporting + Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and regulations. + Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, grant spending, and restricted funds. + Generate timely financial statements, budgets, and reports for internal teams, board members, and external stakeholders. + Grant and Donor Compliance + Track and manage grant expenditures, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private grant agreements. + Assist in preparing grant applications and reports, providing detailed financial data as required. + Audit and Compliance + Assist with annual audits, providing necessary documentation and insights to external auditors. + Ensure adherence to all financial guidelines, IRS regulations, and nonprofit-specific reporting requirements (e.g., Form 990). + Day-to-Day Accounting Activities + Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and cash flow management. + Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions to support transparency and compliance. + Process Improvement + Support the optimization of financial systems, workflows, and policies to improve efficiency and accuracy. Requirements Required Skills and Experience: + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred. + Minimum of [insert number, e.g., 3–5 years] experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, or a similar role. + Proficiency in nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or Blackbaud). + Strong skills with Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis). + Knowledge of GAAP, grant accounting, and restricted fund tracking. + Experience preparing budgets, audits, and tax filings (e.g., Form 990). Preferred Qualities and Traits: + Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. + Understanding of donor software and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce for nonprofits). + Passion for the nonprofit sector and a commitment to the organization’s mission. + Effective communication skills to convey financial insights to both finance- and non-finance-oriented audiences.
