The Accountant role is essential to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis for Billings Clinic and its affiliated entities. Accountants are responsible for developing and maintaining financial records, preparing monthly financial statements, and performing a variety of analyses to support informed decision-making. They work collaboratively with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audits, tax filings, and regulatory reports, while upholding all relevant compliance standards. This role serves as a financial resource within the organization, assisting departments in understanding financial data and contributing to sound business decisions. Accountants also engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen their expertise and enhance team capabilities, ensuring the financial health and sustainability of Billings Clinic.
Essential Job Functions
• Develop and maintain financial records for all Billings Clinic entities, affiliates, and other unrelated entities, including preparation of journal entries, adjustments, monthly financial statements, and reconciliation of accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Assist independent third-party and regulatory auditors by preparing and organizing documentation necessary for audits and supporting the process through to final audit completion.
• Identify required data for financial analyses and reporting, utilizing both internal and external resources to gather and compile necessary information efficiently.
• Prepare quantitative analyses within established deadlines, ensuring all reports and findings adhere to Billings Clinic financial policies and procedures.
• Manage grant reporting activities, including annual indirect cost calculations, semiannual federal financial status reporting, and grant fund drawdowns; reconcile grants and oversee audits to ensure compliance and timely fund availability.
• Collect and compile information for benefit plan reporting, internal financial audit work papers, and the preparation of related tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to tax regulations.
• Gather and verify monthly departmental statistics for financial reporting, ensuring data accuracy and supporting informed organizational decision-making.
• Calculate contractual adjustments and perform monthly accounts receivable reconciliations, designing reports to gather data necessary for accurate contractual percentage calculations.
• Act as a financial resource for operational departments, providing guidance on financial information to aid in strategic decision-making and enhance departmental understanding of financial data.
• Complete accurate financial questionnaires, surveys, and reports for clients and stakeholders within stipulated deadlines.
• Apply performance improvement principles to continually assess and enhance the quality and accuracy of financial processes and reporting.
• Participate in the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures, supporting consistent and efficient operations.
• Stay informed of current legal and regulatory changes, ensuring that financial processes and reporting remain compliant and that any necessary adjustments are made proactively.
• Maintain and manage application or system files impacting the department, working closely with Information Services and Human Resources for updates, scheduling, and issue resolution.
• Identify personal development needs and set professional growth goals, meeting all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements to maintain competency.
• Maintain competency in all organizational, departmental, and external agency standards related to environmental, employee, and patient safety.
