We are seeking a talented individual to join our Controllership division in our Finance department at Marsh. This role will be based in Sandton, hybrid and has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
The Accountant position is part of the Controllership Team committed to giving support services to Marsh, Guy Carpenter, Mercer and Oliver Wayman Opcos.
Reporting to the Senior Assistant Controller, this position is responsible for supporting accounting operations for all South Africa Opcos. The accountant will work closely with the accounting processing teams (Warsaw Hub, WNS India, Fiduciary SA, Consulting Revenue teams) and various tax and regulatory bodies, in addition to providing support to other controllership tasks.
A successful candidate is a person with strong technical accounting experience, outstanding attention to detail, ability to work as team member and good communication skills.
We will count on you to:
Accounting Operations
Review of weekly Accounts Payable (AP) payment batches
Timely resolution of AP and T&E queries from Business and WNS
Preparation or review of month end controllership journals
Review of the monthly General Ledger (GL) and TB
Responding to month end queries from controllers and accounting operations teams
Review of monthly Balance sheet reconciliations and exception reports
Follow up and clearing of all reconciling items timeously. Aged items should not exceed 90 days.
MMC Reporting
Assisting with preparation and review of MMC reporting schedules
Reconciling of tax accounts to OneSource
Preparing quarterly tax provisions on OneSource
Preparing Fin 48 submissions in tax series
Preparing US tax packages in tax series
Review of ITS Reports (MMC Treasury compliance and bank Limits)
Quarterly review of Bank mandates
Local Tax and other local reporting
Preparation/review of monthly WHT schedules
Preparation/review of monthly CIT (income tax) schedules for provisional and final tax returns
Preparation/review and submit monthly VAT returns to Sars
Review monthly SARS statements (including PAYE ) clear all reconciling items
Responding to queries and audits from local tax authorities (SARS )
Attending to tax queries from Revenue Authorities including tax audits
Timely submission of other external reporting requirements (Statistics SA, Reserve bank etc.)
Statutory Audit
Provide a supporting role for coordinating the year-end audit
Maintaining of local statutory ledger and trial balances
Preparing and submission of audit support to the auditors
Responding to audit queries and third-party audit confirmation requests
Other responsibilities
Assisting and supporting controllers with various tasks as required
Assisting with other ad-hoc tasks, projects and initiatives as required
What you need to have:
Completed B-Com Honors degree or Diploma in accounting and working towards a professional Accounting qualifications with minimum 5 years accounting experience
Knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP
Strong accounting experience
Experience in preparing and review of GL reconciliations
Experience in preparation of Audit working papers
Relevant exposure to financial accounting gained by working in a finance environment.
Exposure to balance sheet reporting
Excellent IT Skills (In Accounting packages Excel and Word)
Ability to prioritize, work to tight deadlines and deliver results to short timescales.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-location environment
Ability to maintain clear lines of communication with various internal and external stakeholders
Accuracy with good attention to detail and ability to check work of self and others
Flexible and team player – develops close partnerships with onshore and offshore colleagues
Ability to identify areas to improve efficiency, accuracy and analysis and suggest ways of improvement
