Purpose of Role:

Responsible for accounting, financial reporting and compliance for the South Africa, Namibia and Botswana business of Weir Minerals.  The regional accountant ensures accurate, complete and timely financial reporting and statutory reporting, while ensuring compliance with regulations and accounting policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety First:

Fixed Assets accounting:

Allocate, capitalize, and dispose of assetsEnsure accurate depreciation and maintain the Capex RegisterOversee annual impairment exercisesEnsure capital investments are appropriately approved and aligned to budgeted spend

General Accounting and Financial Reporting:

Support preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements + supporting reconciliationsReview payroll journals, expense accruals and expense analysisManage the deliverables and the work performed by Weir’s outsourced service providerMonitor and review financial transactions and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirementsPrepare detailed financial analysis and reports for financial and business stakeholdersManage intercompany transactions and ensure reconciliation and elimination for group consolidation

Banking and Treasury:

Review bank reconciliations and paymentsManage treasury and cash across the business in line with Group policiesManage FX risk through effective hedging and Balance Sheet managementManage forex deals and cashflow forecastsEnsure compliance with local banking regulationsCoordinate audit preparations and ensure compliance

Audit, Control & Compliance:

Where required, prepare and implement financial policiesEnsure compliance with internal financial policies, local statutory requirements and accounting standardsPrepared regulatory reports, including statutory accountsSupport the internal and external audit processes, ensuring all necessary documentation, explanations, and reconciliations are preparedPerform controls and compliance testing across the business

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

Qualified CA with 5+ years of relevant experience and 2+ years of leadership experienceProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; SAP knowledge is a plusAdvanced analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication and management abilitiesAttention to detail and a continuous improvement mindsetFamiliarity with financial regulations and compliance
