POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Academic Technology Manager, the Academic Technology Specialist facilitates the integration of technology into teaching, learning, and research activities at the Graduate School of Education (GSE). Working with GSE faculty, students, and staff, the Academic Technology Specialist will assist with the assessment and implementation of support and training needs in the following areas: best practices in technology-integrated teaching and learning, learning assessment tools, data collection and analytics software packages, digital productivity tools, collaboration tools, experiential learning, etc. Responsibilities include responding to help tickets related to academic technology or software, understanding requests and seeking additional technical expertise if needed, and addressing issues with LMS and online learning tools. The specialist will support doctoral dissertation defenses by understanding presentation needs and providing Zoom support, while also offering first-line or escalation support for faculty, staff, and students experiencing issues with academic technology tools and platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a basic understanding of contemporary learning models and experience designs, and have foundational knowledge and field experience with current innovations in and implementation of academic technology tools and services. This position reports to the Academic Technology Manager.
JOB PURPOSE:
Facilitate the integration of technology into teaching, learning, and/or research activities.
CORE DUTIES:
Participate in the development of resources, seminars, courses, or workshops to disseminate information about uses of technology. Provide technical support for students and/or instructors when using educational technology, including, but not limited to, Zoom, Canvas, Qualtrics, and Poll Everywhere. Assess training needs; develop and deliver workshops and user-friendly documentation. Participate in or lead projects to develop innovative uses of technology for research, student learning, and/or community building. Determine multimedia, online, and educational technology needs for instructors and/or students, and provide or coordinate solutions. Provide assistance in the direct integration of technology into course curricula, extra-curricular or co-curricular learning, and/or research projects. Engage in initiatives to encourage faculty and/or students to adopt the use of appropriate computer technologies in their teaching, learning, co-curricular activities, or research. Stay informed about educational technology developments through lists, publications, and conferences. Provide outreach and advocacy within or across departments for effective uses of educational technology. Develop relationships with service providers throughout the university to advocate needs and obtain resources for faculty and students.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Current knowledge of the latest software and design standards. Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications. Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt and effectively use a variety of programming methods. Ability to plan, design, develop, and evaluate engaging multimedia learning/training objects. Knowledge of instructional design methodologies, pedagogical issues, and best practices for classroom, online and hybrid learning. Strong knowledge of learning management systems and various classroom and online learning technologies. Ability to recognize and recommend necessary changes in user and/or operations procedures. Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.

Extended hours and weekends. Occasional overnight travel.The expected pay range for this position is $76,353 to $87,848 per annum.
