Description

2025 Summer Internship, Offshore Wind Energy Practice – Environment and Planning (Remote or Reston, VA; Masters)

ICF has been supporting planning, environmental and socioeconomic analyses and permitting for offshore wind development in the United States for the past decade. 2024 was a breakthrough year for offshore wind in the US, with the first project being constructed and connected to the electric grid, and more under construction. Our primary focus is on supporting the federal agency that grants projects final approvals for construction and operations, and we prepare Environmental Impact Statements to support federal decision making in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). NEPA requires technical analysis, public meetings and outreach, and consultations with agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and State Historic Preservation Offices. It’s a complex process and involves preparation of extensive documentation. ICF has large teams of managers, regulatory experts, and specialists in environmental/marine science, cultural resources and socioeconomics involved in this work.

We are looking forward to working with an intern to support our offshore wind practice. The intern will have the opportunity to work with multiple project teams that include managers, regulatory experts, and specialists in environmental/marine science, cultural resources and socioeconomics.

This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2025. Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location, or hybrid from our Reston, VA office. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation or housing assistance for this internship.
