2025 Summer Intern - Product Quality and Occupational Toxicology
Department Summary
Translational Safety (TS) is responsible for advancing the drug development portfolio through the use of high quality non-clinical safety data, emerging scientific methodologies and strategic collaborations. The Product Quality and Occupational Toxicology (PQOT) group, which sits within TS, is seeking a talented and motivated summer intern to join our efforts in worker and patient safety. In PQOT, our goal is to support and ensure the safety of those who produce, handle, and receive our life-changing medicines. To accomplish this, we partner with global and local functions, enabling the safe, quality manufacturing of GNE therapeutics.
This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in fundamental product quality and occupational health hazard assessment practices while gaining firsthand experience in a world-class pharmaceutics organization. Genentech’s PQOT group leverages innovation to advance best practices throughout the pharmaceutical industry.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.
The Opportunity
Evaluation of data pertaining to the health hazards of novel impurities / contaminants that can occur in therapeutics
Development of an understanding of the human health hazard assessments used to support worker safety and patient safety
Data analysis, evaluation and visualization
Evaluation of scientific literature to aid in the compilation and interpretation of complex data sets (e.g., drawing and supporting conclusions)
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful, business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required)
Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing an Associate's Degree or a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
Required Majors: Toxicology, Biochemistry, Industrial Engineering or Hygiene, Chemical or Biochemical engineering, Pharm-D, or similar.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
High level of interest in pharmaceutical development, patient safety and worker safety
Possess an understanding of human biology and biochemistry as well as related terminology
Ability to identify supportive literature (conduct effective literature searches) and experience in the citation of scientific information
Creativity and ability to visualize large datasets using computational programs such as excel
Self-motivated, quick learner, enthusiastic and reliable
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Scientific writing and the interpretation of complex information

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $25-$33 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
