2025 Summer Intern - Department of Discovery Oncology
Department Summary
The Department of Discovery Oncology is seeking a creative, independent, and motivated scientist for a summer internship position. The goal of the Discovery Oncology department is to identify critical targets and pathways required to drive tumor progression and translate these observations into cutting-edge therapeutics that improve patients’ lives. The successful candidate will utilize a variety of biochemical and cell biology techniques to explore targets in the expanding field of induced proximity. As part of the internship experience, the candidate will participate in a range of activities in the Discovery Oncology department as well as across the broader Genentech campus, gaining valuable insight into a potential career in biotechnology and drug discovery.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco (on-site only).
The Opportunity
Design and execute experiments independently or in collaboration with staff scientists.
Interpret and communicate results in small groups or in department presentation forums.
Maintain accurate, detailed and timely records using an electronic notebook.
Participate in Genentech internship program activities and events.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are (Required)
Required Education:
Must be pursuing a Master's Degree or PhD (enrolled student)
Required Majors:
Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology or related degree.
Required Skills:
Prior hands-on research experience in a biology lab is required
Experience with mammalian cell culture.
Experience with cell-based assays.
Experience with biochemistry techniques.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $40.00-$45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
