As an intern, you will be based at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, participating in meaningful assignments that impact our business and patients worldwide.
Clinical Trial Operations Internship Overview
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for participants in AbbVie's R&D Graduate Internship Program.
The R&D Graduate Internship offers interns the opportunity to gain insight into the development and execution of clinical trials and business critical project management. It provides a comprehensive view of the teams and activities that support these trials and projects through strategic oversight, project management, and analytical capabilities, enhancing the planning, execution, and reporting processes. Through this internship, students gain first-hand experience with different functional areas and roles across the organization, further enhancing their opportunity for professional growth and development.
Examples of potential project work include:
+ Acquisition Integration - Clinical Operations: Work closely with senior integration managers and cross-functional teams to support the seamless transition and alignment of newly acquired clinical operations with our existing infrastructure. Responsibilities will include assisting in the development and execution of integration plans, monitoring integration progress, and identifying opportunities for process optimization and efficiency.
+ Initiative Oversight and Simplification: Collaborate with experienced project managers and cross-functional teams to oversee ongoing initiatives and contribute to their simplification. Primary responsibilities will include assisting in the evaluation of current processes, identifying areas of improvement, and developing strategies to enhance efficiency. Additional responsibilities include data gathering, analysis, and documentation, and providing insightful recommendations that streamline operations and maximize impact.
+ KPI Management - Clinical Dev Ops Capabilities: Work alongside experienced professionals to support the creation and alignment of key performance indicators (KPIs) across various clinical trials. Primary responsibilities will include assisting in the identification of relevant metrics, developing standardized KPI frameworks, and ensuring their integration across multiple trial platforms. Additional responsibilities include data collection, analysis, and reporting, and providing critical insights that help drive decision-making processes and improve trial efficiency.
+ Strategic Study Start-Up- Global Clinical Trials: Collaborate closely with the strategic study start-up organization, contributing to initiatives that streamline processes and enhance the speed and efficiency of trial site activations worldwide. Responsibilities will include assisting in the development and implementation of site start-up strategies, coordinating across multiple regions, and analyzing data to identify process improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
+ Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master’s or PhD within a STEM discipline or related area, or a PharmD
+ Expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026
+ Proven track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, and integrity
+ Excellent communication, leadership, project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
+ Experience with Microsoft Excel or other database tools is a plus
