2025 Internship - Submarine Navigation Analysis

We are seeking an intern to help us ensure the US Navy surface and subsurface fleet have the most accurate and reliable navigation systems in the world. You will join a dedicated group of engineers, physicists, software developers, mathematicians, and scientists who are committed to directly contributing to the success of strategic and tactical missions of utmost importance to the US Navy. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the development of tools and techniques crucial to gaining critical insight into navigation performance. For example, our interns have worked on an Agile software team to develop production-level analysis software, have participated in research and development efforts to advance machine learning and optimization processes and have developed tools to enhance training in key navigation concepts. You will learn about complex inertial navigation systems employed across multiple platforms. You will have the opportunity to network and learn from experienced individuals with diverse backgrounds. Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related subject. Have a strong curiosity about how a navigation system performs. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
