Description

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: 

Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed.

 

Compensation/Benefits 

Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment.

• Salary placement is based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience (depending on discipline) and as documented in application materials. • Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment.

Sick Leave Accrual: Associate faculty accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis. Additional information can be found in Article 18 of the AFA Contract.

 

Retirement: SRJC offers CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance and Social Security as Associate Faculty retirement options. Eligibility for each plan is determined based on prior membership status with CalSTRS.

 

Essential Functions

 

• Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.

• Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.

• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

• Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.

• Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.

• Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

SELECTION PROCESS: 

If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected, candidates will be invited to an interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. Selected candidates who are not given an immediate assignment will remain in the pool for four years.

 

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

 

EOPS is a program that supports low-income and historically excluded student populations attending college full-time to complete their academic goals, such as first-generation, formerly incarcerated, English as Second Language Learners, and/or current and former foster youth. The CalWORKs Program supports parenting students on public assistance. The purpose of EOPS, CalWORKs and Foster Youth Programs is to help students who have been disproportionately impacted to complete certificates, earn associate degrees and/or transfer.

Required: 

 

Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work or Career Development, OR the equivalent; AND 

 

EOPS Counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:

 

• (Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages;

 

• OR Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages;

 

AND In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.

 

Preferred: 

 

• The ability to develop comprehensive long-term educational plans, and maintain accurate and detailed case file records within a complex State-funded categorical program.

• Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.

• Prior community college counseling and teaching experience.

• Prior experience and demonstrated commitment to providing service to individuals and groups of diverse educational, cultural, ethnic and language backgrounds.

• Case management experience demonstrating attention to detail and record keeping.

• Ability to communicate in at least one language other than English, preferably Spanish.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
