The job of the Climbing Wall Supervisor is to supervise, oversee, and monitor all Climbing Wall Managers and help with the oversight of the Climbing Wall area.

Direct Report: Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Outdoor Pursuits Graduate Assistants of Recreational Sports for Outdoor Pursuits


Job Duties: Assist with interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising Climbing Wall Attendants and Route Setters. This includes informing all employees of the policies and enforcing them consistently. Update Student Employee Handbook as needed Regularly meet with Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Outdoor Pursuits and/or Graduate Assistants for Outdoor Pursuits Assist with conducting staff meetings and training on a regular basis Assist in developing and adapting department policies and procedures Develop and complete student staff evaluations each semester Ensure all policies and procedures are being followed by all patrons and staff Conduct rounds throughout the semester to visit the entire staff for quality assurance Sit in on disciplinary meetings with staff as needed Help with scheduling and coverage of regular shifts, climbing wall classes, workshops and events Lead in the implementation of the risk management plan scenarios/evaluations Ensure all student employees do not work over 20 hours per week Attend one-day events, conferences, and retreats. Collaborate with other student supervisors on civic engagement activities and fundraising programs Serve as a mentor to all employees Spend at least two hours per week on administrative duties and supervision Assist with planning, marketing, and running events Attend monthly supervisor meetings and assist with Rec Sports events Days/Hours Needed Monday-Friday 3 P.M.-10 P.M.
Saturday-Sunday 3 P.M.-8 P.M. Campus Location/Bldg. Climbing wall located in the Student Life Center Required Qualifications Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Be a current full-time student Pass staff training Must be familiar with Outdoor Pursuits’ climbing wall program Must be willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends Must hold certification in CPR/AED/First Aid or be willing to become certified Preferred Qualifications Climbing and belaying experience Awareness of safety concerns and risk management involved with climbing Knowledge of rock climbing technique, belaying technique, routes and rating systems, rock climbing safety equipment, knots, and rope management CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications Knowledge of campus recreation programs and activities Effective written and verbal communication Physical Demands The employee frequently is required to climb to perform inspections and must be able to perform rescues if needed.

Physical requirements include but are not limited to walking, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined space, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying loads up to 50 pounds unassisted, and using ladders.
