Our client in the Retail industry is looking to hire a Head of Employee Relations.

Perspective: Customers

Output:

·         Builds and maintains strategic business relationships thereby delivering quality customer service

·         Establishes and maintains network to build the brand image

·         Provides a consultative service to stakeholders on Employee Relations matters

Quality Requirements:

·         Represents the Company both internally and externally.

·         Protects the Brand by representing the Company at external forums.

·         Leverages relationships with attorneys, labour lawyers and other ER specialists.

·         Manages, balances, and aligns internal customer requirements to ensure quality of service and to mitigate risk

·         Works closely, and attempts to build trusting relationships, with internal Company colleagues and peers from other departments whose work are critical to achieve objectives and accuracy of outputs

·         Engages with business partners, resolves conflicts and builds effective relationships

·         Coaches HC Business Partners on ER matters

·         Collaborates with stakeholders to reach consensus on solutions to business challenges

·         Identifies change agents who will act as champions to implement and achieve business initiatives and objectives.

·         Creates solutions to meet customer demands

Quality Requirements:

·         Crafts ER policy and procedure and socializes it in business.

·         Anticipates and identifies future ER related issues that will impact the business and partners with business to develop strategies to address them.

·         Advises and consults to line on long-term ER planning. 

·         Drives innovation, change and implementation of ER practices that improve business results.

·         Networks with HR & ER professionals in the industry to keep up to date with changes / innovation.

·         Researches and implements best practice solutions to ensure business continuity and optimisation of systems and processes

 

 

·         Translates legislation, policy, methodologies, procedures, and frameworks in a way that can be understood simply and practically by business.

·         Participates in and influences community / government relations activities to promote the Company image and impact business results.

·         Ensures Labour Law compliance.

·         Monitors adherence to application of labour legislation, conditions of employment and other related industrial relations matters. 

·         Interprets and complies with industrial legislation governing conditions of employment. 

·         Reviews and implements changes to IR Policies and procedures at the Organisation.

·         Develops and embeds an ER strategy that is aligned to business strategy and facilitates the achievement of business objectives whilst maintaining good people principles

·         Actively participates in company’s SA strategic business planning process. 

·         Evaluates and monitors the impact of people practices in the business Identifies and manages potential risks and ensures that risk mitigation recommendations are effectively implemented by way of ensuring formulating and ensuring the implementation of an integrated

·         Anticipates and Measures customer satisfaction through feedback mechanisms

·         Manages ER reports and analysis for the Division

·         Advises on new tools that offer increased business efficiency and profitability. Sets and tracks metrics for revised strategies

·         Analyses data and provides useful insight to business

Perspective: Financial

Output:

·         Plans, secures, and controls the annual budget for area of responsibility

Quality Requirements:

·         Creates budget for next financial year for area of responsibility, ensuring all operational plans are taken into consideration.  

·         Works with Finance to create, analyse and interpret Budget Variance Reports.  Presents the business case to motivate for financial resources.

·         Contributes to cost efficiencies.

·         Manages the costs (telephone, internet usage, fleet card, expense claims etc) for staff in area of responsibility

·         Ensures that Human Capital project budgets are managed and that project deliverables are completed within budget

·         Builds a culture of personal accountability and teamwork.

·         Participates in planned activities that are appropriate for own and staff development.

·         Facilitates performance management process for area of responsibility.

·         Leadership

 

Quality Requirements:

·         Promotes and contributes towards coaching and motivation of team members.

·         Promotes teamwork amongst peers and team members.

·         Identifies training or development needs of self and direct reports and pro-actively selects effective solutions to address own and staff development. 

·         Ensures that each direct report prepares a personal development plan and reviews these plans and their implementation.

·         Demonstrates and Reinforces the leadership behaviours necessary to gain commitment

·         Role models the utilization of effective people systems and processes within the HC department

 

Requirements:

·         BCom Honours Degree majoring in Labour Law or LLB

·         Knowledge in Union and Bargaining Council negotiations

·         CCMA and Labour Court representation

·         10 years’ experience in ER, unionised and non-unionised environment
